Twilight DVD release
Because I'm becoming casually obsessed with vampire movies...
I was at Meijers at midnight and there were literally teen girls running toward the display.

Mutant Chronicles trailer

Sounds interesting to me:
Mutant Chronicles is set in the year 2707, on an unrecognizable Earth where a war is raging between four giant corporations who control the planet as they battle over the planet's dwindling resources. This war is soon rendered irrelevant when an errant bomb shatters an ancient buried seal, releasing a horrific mutant army from its prison deep within the earth. As the mutant scourge threatens human extinction, a squad of ragged soldiers, led by Mitch Hunter (Thomas Jane), descends into the earth in a last ditch effort to destroy the mutants and save mankind.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li (teaser trailer)
The action sequences look kind of wack but I'm hoping that somehow the overall movie turns out well.
My mind wonders...what if Ziyi Zhang (Crouch Tiger, Hidden Dragon) had been cast as Chun Li? The emotion she brings to her roles is superb. It's something about her eyes.

'Let the Right One In' trailer
Here's a vampire love story other than Twilight.
Let the Right One In is a Swedish film about "Oscar, an overlooked and bullied boy who finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl who turns out to be a vampire." And yes, it's based on a novel too.
Interested?

An Underworld movie without Kate Beckinsale doesn't seem as cool. Beckinsale completely owned that role! She was kick-butt while bringing a softness and depth to her character at the same time. The next movie in the series is a prequel the original. The trailer looks pretty good except for the lead actress, Rhona Mitra. I saw her in Doomsday and her acting was extremely bland, even when she's been in supporting roles her performances were decent at best. But you never know, sometimes actors can surprise you. Since Underworld is what made me like vampire films I'm hoping this one turns out good despite the fact that Len Wiseman didn't direct it.
What are your thoughts on the latest addition to the franchise?

The Final Trailer for Twilight
Maybe it's just me but I liked the first trailer better. It had more mystique whereas the final trailer makes the story seem a little cheesy with some of its on-the-nose dialogue and soap opera stares.
For the sake of all future vampire love stories I hope Twilight lives up to its hype. I'm really enjoying the vampire (and werewolf) trends in pop culture and it would be a shame to see it fade away so briefly.
Are you stoked about seeing the movie? Or are you satisfied with the books?

The Anime Jesus Film - A Preview
I wrote about the anime Jesus Film in a previous post. Since then the creators have a come up with a prototype and now they're looking for some feedback. It's not the best anime I've seen but it's a nice effort (in the spreading the Gospel sense). What do you think?

I wrote about my excitement for the new Street Fighter movie over here but now I'm really excited because I didn't know that Moon Bloodgood was in it too. So it looks like Kristin Kreuk (Smallville) and Bloodgood (Journeyman) will be battling it out. Sweet. Other interesting cast members include Michael Clarke Duncan (Daredevil) and Taboo from Black Eyed Peas.

They can't make enough vampire and werewolf love stories for me.
I liked Underworld the best but I also enjoyed Blood & Chocolate and Skinwalkers. Now I can't wait to see Twilight! It's another tale of young vampire love. And that's just fine by me.

M. Night Shamalyan is a master of eerie storytelling. His films engage us to think about a realm that exists just beyond what is seen. And that concept is very much rooted in Christian spirituality.
Ephesians 6:12 says, "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."
If Shamalyan were a Christian (and he could be, I'm not sure) that would probably be the verse he placed next to his computer.
Shamalyan's next movie, The Happening, stars Mark Wahlberg and is about a strange occurence that sweeps the nation and leaves people in a smalltown to figure things out.

There aren't many things that I like about Star Trek besides Patrick Stewart as Captain Piccard, Seven of Nine and the Borg. Other than that I'm so not a Trekkie. But this makes me happy: Zoe Saldana is cast in the upcoming Star Trek movie as Nyota Uhura. I'll probably end up seeing this movie in theatres just because she's in it. I've followed most of her work since Drumline and I'd really like to see her turn into a major A-List star because Hollywood needs more diversity!

This is one DVD you never, ever want to rent. Saying it's waste of time, space and film doesn't even begin to cut it. If I had to chose between stepping in dog poo or watching this movie again, I'd take the dog poo. Seriously.
The plot was confusing. The action sequences were cheesy. Charlize Theron's performance was flatter than a tortilla. The movie was a complete mess, in the grand scale of "when Sci-Fi movies go bad".
I kept hoping that the movie would get better, that somehow things would magically turn around and it wouldn't completely suck. But that moment never came, so I did what any wise movie watcher would do: I pressed stop and thanked God that I hadn't wasted $10 seeing it in theaters.
For those of you who actually braved through this Sci-Fi bomb, how did the movie end? (Like I really care?!?!)

I hope Nicolas Cage suprises me because picturing him as Ghost Rider is laughable. The only thing worst than this is that he was almost cast as Superman. Now that's just scary.
To make things more unbelieveable they have Eva Mendes as his love interest. I guess the Ghost Rider knows magic too.
Here's my picks for actors who would have made a steamier Johnny Blaze:
1. Paul Walker - He's hot, looks way better in a leather jacket and he's got the whole tough guy act down. Plus, him and Eva Menedes sharing an onscreen kiss would have been scorching.
2. Vin Diesel - He's got the voice, the attitude and he's looks like a Harley was made for him. It's too bad this role speeded past him.
3. Jason Statham - He was on fire in The Transporter. He's a shoe in for the reculant hero role and he's deadly cool.
Who knows? Maybe Cage will blow us away in this movie, he is a top-notch actor, but can he successfully pull off the role of a comicbook superhero? Sadly, as far as the trailer goes, it looks like this movie will be going down in flames.

"The typical fantasy is epic, involving great battles for freedom, even for the survival of the world--concerns that overreach the mundane and petty details of day to day life... Of all the genres, fantasy is the only one that acknowledges the existence of this battle, and for that reason I would claim it is in some ways more representative of reality than more “realistic” stories which, if anything, tend to convey the message that it doesn’t exist."
