Motor City Comic-Con After Party

This was my first time at a Comic-Con party, here's a snippet of the event...

My friend and I didn't wear a costume but next year maybe I'll geek it out.

John Schneider (Part 1)

I interviewed John Schneider at the Motor City Comic Con earlier this year. He's super nice and quite humble. Here's a short snippet I captured...

I'll include the transcript later on.

New Moon poster

My girlish excitement for this sequel continues to grow. I'm a big fan of vampire/werewolf love stories, all thanks to the Underworld series.

Eureka

I've only seen a couple episodes of the series but I'd like to buy the DVDs. The show has a cool premise and the love story between Allison and Jack looks cute.

What are your thoughts on Eureka?

Chuck Bartowski is Pretty Awesome!

Chuck is the perfect geek chic TV show. I really hope NBC doesn't cancel it. The Buy More team was hilarious every week. The love story between Sarah and Chuck was delightfully charming and sweet. When Casey gave Chuck one of his death looks, watch out. And last but not least, when Jeff played the keytar at Ellie's wedding...priceless.

Is Chuck one of your favorite TV shows? If so, what are some of your favorite episodes, scenes or quotes?

Battlestar Galactica: The Series Finale

Being a spiritual person, a Christian, the last episode of Battlestar Galactica made me remember just how vast our universe is. There's so much we don't know, so much history behind us and an endless tale before us. But at the same time we're able to hold onto what we do know and somehow etch out purpose and find meaning.

As for the show itself, the series finale was a brilliant piece of science fiction television. The characters I've grown to like said their farewells in a way that kept true to the tone of the show. That meant lots of bittersweet moments.

This is my quick reflection after watching the final episode and I'll eventually write a more detailed analysis/review on what made Battlestar Galactica so special.

Because I'm becoming casually obsessed with vampire movies...

I was at Meijers at midnight and there were literally teen girls running toward the display.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans - review

Rise of the Lycans was a nice way to end/begin the franchine. Rhona Mitra actually did a good job and Michael Sheen was amazing as Lucian!

Here are some fan reactions via Reelz Channel:

Mutant Chronicles trailer

Sounds interesting to me:
Mutant Chronicles is set in the year 2707, on an unrecognizable Earth where a war is raging between four giant corporations who control the planet as they battle over the planet's dwindling resources. This war is soon rendered irrelevant when an errant bomb shatters an ancient buried seal, releasing a horrific mutant army from its prison deep within the earth. As the mutant scourge threatens human extinction, a squad of ragged soldiers, led by Mitch Hunter (Thomas Jane), descends into the earth in a last ditch effort to destroy the mutants and save mankind.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li (teaser trailer)

The action sequences look kind of wack but I'm hoping that somehow the overall movie turns out well.

My mind wonders...what if Ziyi Zhang (Crouch Tiger, Hidden Dragon) had been cast as Chun Li? The emotion she brings to her roles is superb. It's something about her eyes.

'Let the Right One In' trailer

Here's a vampire love story other than Twilight.

Let the Right One In is a Swedish film about "Oscar, an overlooked and bullied boy who finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl who turns out to be a vampire." And yes, it's based on a novel too.

Interested?

'Knowing' trailer

Nicolas Cage stars in an end of the world movie. He has to solve some kind of riddle or it's bye-bye Earth. The plot kind of reminds me of "The Pattern" from Fringe.

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans - trailer

An Underworld movie without Kate Beckinsale doesn't seem as cool. Beckinsale completely owned that role! She was kick-butt while bringing a softness and depth to her character at the same time. The next movie in the series is a prequel the original. The trailer looks pretty good except for the lead actress, Rhona Mitra. I saw her in Doomsday and her acting was extremely bland, even when she's been in supporting roles her performances were decent at best. But you never know, sometimes actors can surprise you. Since Underworld is what made me like vampire films I'm hoping this one turns out good despite the fact that Len Wiseman didn't direct it.

What are your thoughts on the latest addition to the franchise?

Star Trek: The New Cast

I'm not a Trek fan but this picture makes me a little excited. My casting favorites are Zoe Saldana as Uhura and John Cho as Sulu.

Are you eager to see this film?

Dakota Fanning Goes Sci-fi in Push

People realize they have special powers and they go on a quest to save the world. It's your basic storyline but it's the how that makes things interesting. Dakota Fanning and Chris Evans team up in Push to do their brand of saving the world from crazy people who want to do bad stuff. It's look like it could be good.

What are your thoughts on the trailer?

The Final Trailer for Twilight

Maybe it's just me but I liked the first trailer better. It had more mystique whereas the final trailer makes the story seem a little cheesy with some of its on-the-nose dialogue and soap opera stares.

For the sake of all future vampire love stories I hope Twilight lives up to its hype. I'm really enjoying the vampire (and werewolf) trends in pop culture and it would be a shame to see it fade away so briefly.

Are you stoked about seeing the movie? Or are you satisfied with the books?

TV Review: Sanctuary

Sanctuary is pretty much a freak show.

The SciFi Channel's latest offering is loaded with weird creatures and at times tries too hard to create an eerie feel. The premiere wasn't spectacular but it did enough to keep me intrigued to see what happens next week. The story started off slow, too slow. But once we got pass all the lackluster cop stuff and onto an introduction of the actual sanctuary things got interesting.

As far as the production value goes there were a bunch of clique bits of dialogue and the writing isn't nearly as smart and subtle as Battlestar Galactica but the special effects were nicely done (aside from the cheesy mermaid). However some of the costumed creatures looked fake, like the monster butler and the creepy plant killer. But it wasn't that distracting from the storyline.

One nice surprise was seeing Kandyse McClure from BSG playing Robin's ex-girlfriend.

Bottom line: I'm not completely sold on this series but I'm going to give it a few more episodes to really impress me.

Did Sanctuary make a fan out of you?
